NEW IRISH YOUTH ORCHESTRA
New Irish Arts presents a one-day workshop and concert for young instrumentalists, playing alongside members of the New Irish Orchestra. The concert will also feature the New Irish Youth Choir.
Date: Saturday 1st April 2017
Venue: Glenabbey Church,
Time: Workshop begins at 1:30pm
Concert begins at 8pm.
Who can join?
Players of brass, woodwind, strings or percussion aged 11-17 who have reached the minimum standard, working towards Grade 5 or higher. You need to be willing to play songs for Christian worship.
Please note that on this occasion we are focusing on orchestral instruments, so we can’t offer places to other instruments such as guitar or bagpipes.
Do I have to audition?
No – this is just a one-day workshop. We may introduce auditions in the future, but for now we will select players based on a registration form online. If we are oversubscribed we will select the players with the most experience.
We will email sheet music to everyone before the workshop so that you can print it out and practice.
What will happen on the day?
This is a rough plan for the day:
1:45 Full orchestra rehearsal
3:30 Sectional Rehearsals
4:30 Full rehearsal with youth choir
6:00 Break – Dinner will be provided
7:30 Prayers before concert
9:15 Concert Ends
What do I wear on the day?
Our Youth Choir has official T-shirts and hoodies. In the future we may introduce something similar for the orchestra, but this time round you can wear anything you feel comfortable in. There is no need to dress up for the concert.
What do I need to bring?
Your instrument and a music stand and your sheet music pack.
How much does it cost?
The cost for the day is £25. This includes participation in the workshops and concert and your evening meal, along with other refreshments through the afternoon.
How do I apply to join?
Register HERE https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScs-xNB1v3VeX9Us-jvyQypgW-BTguVT34IOxHsOkK2SsukDw/viewform
We will let you know before 17 March if you have been successful in getting a place. If you haven’t heard back by that date, please email email@example.com
Where can I get tickets for the concert?
What if I’m already in the Youth Choir?
Don’t worry. You can join both groups. For this day, why not apply to be in the orchestra and experience something new? You’ll still get a chance to catch up with friends from the Youth Choir on the day.
For parents: All staff will be experienced in working with young people. They will be checked with Access NI and trained in child protection.
