Who can join?
YOUTH CHOIR:
Girls and boys with unbroken voices can join in the summer after their P6 year. They can attend their last Youth Choir residential at the end of Year 10, after which they can choose to audition for the New Irish Senior Youth Choir (boys can audition for this as soon as their voices break).
SENIOR YOUTH CHOIR:
Current Year 11 to Year 14 boys and girls are welcome to apply. Boys who are younger than Year 11 with broken voices are also welcome to audition. They can attend their last Youth Choir residential at the end of Year 14, after which they can choose to audition for the New Irish Adult Choir.
What happens at the auditions?
At your audition you need to sing part of a song. Please bring sheet music for the piano to play along. Please don’t bring backing tracks. There is never time to hear the whole song, so we usually hear less than a minute from each person. Here are some of the types of songs people have sung successfully and got into the choir:
- Simple songs like Happy Birthday
- Worship songs like In Christ Alone or Cornerstone
- Musical Theatre songs like Tomorrow or A Million Dreams
- Classical songs that people have prepared for singing exams.
Remember- nobody gets in because of the song they pick- it’s all about your voice. So, make sure the song shows your voice at its best.
After the auditions we write out to parents to let you know if you’re being offered a place, and you’ll be asked to book and pay to secure your place on the residential.
Those auditioning for Senior Youth Choir will also be asked in the audition to do a vocal range check and to learn a short section of a piece using sheet music (with help).
Booking will open in January 2025.
